My Spicy Recipe ~ Announcing A Giveaway Event

I am excited to announce my very first event. Being into the world of blogging
world for the past 6 years I had not hosted an event until date. The reason is none other than apprehension!

CupoNation, the renowned website which offers variety home and kitchen related
discount coupons for a number of leading online retailers in India like
flipkart, snapdeal etc, had shown great interest in collaborating with Spicy Chilly

The guidelines for participation are:

1.You can send a recipe which is spicy, because I love spicy food :). It can be of any cuisine of any kind; with any level of spice in it.
Non-spicy recipes are also welcome, anyway.

2. Let the recipe post be preferably a fresh one. Any smart food and kitchen related shopping tips along with your recipe blog posts would be interesting and are appreciated.

3. Only bloggers are entertained at this point.
A blogger with multiple blogs can send multiple entries but one entry/recipe per blog, please.

4. Give a link back to the sponsor.
In the first line you should mention your favorite online retailer from here .
For e.g if its Myntra, you may say,
I love shopping through Myntra (attach the URL/link http://www.cuponation.in/myntra-coupons )
or if its jabong you can write,
I find Jabong really great.

5. Winning entries would be drawn from the participants. The giveaways are in the form of e-gift vouchers. Its basically a voucher code and pin which would be used instead of payment.

6. Send your recipe link along with a picture attached, to spicychilly.cuponation@gmail.com before 25th of February.

7. I will publish the entries in order as I receive. Hope you would give a link back to this announcement page as well, thus helping me to spread the word, and let me also hope that you would stand by me and make the event a huge success!

Quick, Cheap and Healthy Microwave Meals (Guest Post by Tanya)

This is a guest post from Tanya, my friend, who works with ASDA grocery store. She had wanted to do a post here for sometime and both of us got a little occupied with our own ways with the start of the year! Better late than never and here she goes.... :)

Hi, I'm Tanya and I work with ASDA not so long time but anyway I can surely tell that they are very reliable and credible. Especially if are in UK - ASDA is one of the best, easiest and fastest online shopping for you! And today they share some inspiring recipes of fast microwave meals. Enjoy and don't hesitate to leave your opinions.

It’s the new year, which means back into our usual busy routines. Family life returns to a whirl of working late, after school clubs, playdates, parties and social engagements, and cooking can become harder to fit in.

However, there’s no need to slave over a hot stove for hours in order to serve up delicious, healthy meals. The often overlooked microwave can be a very handy tool in the kitchens of busy families, allowing you to whip up hot meals in no time.
Take a look at the following recipes for inspiration, then take yourself off to the ASDA grocery store to pick up the necessary ingredients. Even better, save time by shopping online from the comfort of your own home and get your groceries delivered directly to your door. When you shop at the grocery store at ASDA the ASDA price guarantee means that you’ll get the best deal on your shopping, making these meals not only quick and healthy, but also as cheap as possible too!

Spicy Jambalaya

This warming dish is super healthy and contains lots of lycopene boosting tomatoes and red peppers. If you’re on a new year health kit, make it even healthier by using wholegrain rice.
It couldn’t be easier to make. Tip a can of tomatoes into a large microwavable bowl, then mix in the same amount again of water. Add to the liquid chopped red pepper, chorizo sausage, sweetcorn, easy cook rice and a sprinkling of Cajun seasoning, and stir.
Cover with film and microwave for ten minutes, stir, then return to the microwave for a further ten minutes. Serve with a spoonful of soured cream.

Easy Butternut Squash Risotto

This tasty recipe is a great way to sneak veggies into reluctant teens or tots. You can even add other vegetables including peas, sweetcorn, carrots – whatever they like!
Microwave 250g of risotto rice in 500ml of hot vegetable stock, in a covered bowl, for five minutes. Add chunks of butternut squash and a further 200ml of stock, then return to the microwave for a further 15 mins (stir halfway).
After the ping, stir in some parmesan cheese. On serving, grate over more parmesan for a tasty, cheesy treat. It couldn’t be easier!

Super Salmon and Couscous

Salmon is a fantastic source of omega 3, which is great for growing brains and busy grown-ups too! It doesn’t have to take long to serve up a great fish dish – this one can be on the table in less than half an hour, no faffing required!
Add stock to a bowl of couscous, leave for ten mins, then fluff up with a fork. Add a handful of fresh herbs, some chopped sundried tomatoes and some spring onion to taste. Meanwhile, microwave some salmon fillets individually (in a clingfilm covered bowl) in the microwave for approximately 3.5 mins. Check the fish is cooked through before serving atop a bed of couscous, with salad or a microwaved sweet potato, and a squeeze of lemon.
There’s no reason why quick microwave meals can’t be healthy and tasty. With the right ingredients from the grocery store you can whip us some amazingly simple, yet delicious recipes that the whole family will love, with a minimum of mess, fuss and faff!

Cheers,
Tanya

Blue berry muffins

Hi, I am Bharathy of Spicy Chilly. Many of you already know that we are sisters (rocking in our own ways..as many of you had mentioned a lot of times.. ahem ;)) with our spaces for the past five years.
Well, here's the fact again, for you...after reading her 5th year post I was pleasantly surprised when I realised the hard work she'd put in and the fruits she plucked; though we started blogging at the same time she has 16 times visitorships and earnings than mine!!  This definitely isn't a simple thing for anyone who works, travels, socialises, maintains home, friends and cooks! The word A.W.E.S.O.M.E would be understated here!

As already said, she was the one who introduced me to this world of blogging and when she too joined within a month or so, both of us should admit the fact that we loved every moment being here with lots of food, friends, pictures, gossips ;) and more, ever since..

I have a few out there who (still) mail me or message me wondering at our closeness, the warmth and concern we always share. Honestly, let me tell you, we are like any other sisters...we yell at each other, we fight, we cry (mostly one of us) we pour out, we compromise blowing peace pipes dancing around the fire and see to it nothing is taken to the hearts :)..or at least amma's words ring in my ears.."bharathee aren't you ashamed? to be so immature..she's is nine years ( stressing the numeral) younger than you.." which provides an instantaneous impact on me ;)

The cocktail is here, if you had missed out, which had been the post that stood above all my recipe posts in 2011.
Still overwhelmed by the love you all had showered on us!

I had never really thought of doing a guest post for her until recently I had been forcing myself to do it in her lovely lovely space as I wanted to..so badly..

Bindya, this is for you...

Coconut wheat cake

Ihappened to see this interesting combo ultimately made into perfect moist muffins in Dershana's space and I found myself whipping up the cake the very same day!
Dershana, a charming girl, hails from my native town, grew up in the same little community and completed her graduation from the same old college I had been, is my classmate's cousin as well.
This interestingly combined cake batter, she admits, is her invention instilled by the demands of her cute little school going kid! So, obviously this is a kid friendly recipe.
The flavour of  fresh coconut, wheat, coconut oil and cardamom is a delicious melt in your mouth combo complimented by the richness of the cashews!

Something which spread a smile on my face in her recipe was the way the batter is prepared!
The ingredients all in a chutney jar to begin with! :)...such a down to earth method which doesn't call for cream butter and sugar as the initial whip as you find in the usual batter preps!

Wholewheat Coconut and Cashew cake made with Coconut Oil
Serves-3

Adapted from the footloose chef

Caster sugar - 1/2 cup (if you dont have caster sugar , just run your regular sugar in the mixie to powder it)          Whole wheat flour - 1/2 cup + dessert spoonful
Fresh grated coconut - 3 dessertspoons (about 30 gms)
 Unroasted cashewnuts - 10 Nos
 Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Virgin coconut oil - 1/4 cup ( I used the regular oil)
 Egg - 1 large
Milk- 2 tbsps (this is the only addition I made from the original recipe)
 Cardamom - 4-5 pods

Place the sugar, coconut, and cashews in the chutney jar of your mixie or the coffee grinder and pulse a few times to powder together. Add the egg, cardamom seeds, and oil and whisk again. Using a flat ladle mix together the baking powder and flour. Pour in the wet mixture and fold in well. Add milk necessary to form a thick cake batter. Preheat oven, pour batter into cupcake moulds (as in the oroginal recipe) or you greased and dusted bundt pan (as in mine) and bake till a tooth pick poked in the centre comes out clear.

Mine got a bit over baked as I left it unattended towards the end for more than 5 minutes. So, it wasn't as moist as in the original recipe. So be careful when you do the same.

It was delicious and I had an over load of it!
You just can't stop with a slice or two and would realise the richness of the cake (due to the rich ingredients present in it) only later! :)

This is for coconut lovers!
Thank you Dersh, for the wonderful recipe :)

For swapna

I was more than excited the minute I came to know that my friend Swapna's recipe had been chosen as the month's recipe by the Sweet Punch team! I had wanted to try this when she posted the recipe but as always, never took the effort of making the same lazing out :).

When the recipe was announced, I planned to make the dessert during Christmas, so that children would be around, but then with the cakes and cookies all flowing in I wasn't quite motivated. Moreover I had by hands unbelievably full during the hoildays.

Finally I got ready with the ingredients and started whipping up the dessert 2 days back..

For the Dulce le Lechey, I adapted David Lebovitz's method as I felt to be more convenient and safe. Unfortunately my glass dish placed on the water bath on a pan didn't sit inside my small sized oven and I was forced to make it poured in individual ramekins made to sit in the glass dish made as the hot water bath, in turn.
The Dulce was a bit over done for me as I left it more than the time mentioned, my carelessness :), and I diluted with a table spoon of warm milk and condensed milk to bring it to the right consistency. I forgot to add the salt as suggested but again it was fine.

Banoffee Pie
Source- Swapna's Cuisine

Though Swapna had been assuring about the irresistible taste, being a weight watcher, at least for the time being, I was worried counting the high calories contained in the dessert!
Soon after the photography session I licked clean the spoon you see up in the first picture ;) and then was prompted to dig out more! two more..nah..three more and the bowl was packed off to the neighbourhood!

Verdict from the neighbour's family - Absolutely lovely dessert! looking forward to more! but more quantity for next time please! :)

That says it all! :)

If you need more feedback I would rate this as a rich, creamy, melt in the mouth dessert! The combined flavour of the salt n sweet biscuit base, the creamy  rich dulce, the sweet sour ripe banana flavour and the cream topping compliments to the core and proves to be a high threat to the milk/sweet lovers! ;)

I avoided chocolate sauce as in the recipe, wanting to create a design of neat circles of chocolate powder dusted on top. I do have the circles and the chocolate powder dusted, but of course not neat as expected! Pardon :)
